geography

Aboncourt-sur-Seille is located in the Saulnois , 20 kilometers northeast of Nancy and 30 kilometers south of Metz an der Seille , a tributary of the Moselle .

history

The place name originated from the Franconian name Abbo and the Latin word curtis for "courtyard". So it means "Abbos Hof".

There are traces of the Gallo-Roman period in the area .

The place used to belong to the property of the priory in Salonnes and the abbey of Salival (today part of the municipality of Moyenvic ).

1793 received Aboncourt-sur-Seille (as Aboncourt ) in the course of the French Revolution (1789-1799) the status of a municipality and 1801 the right to local self-government. From 1801 to 1871 it belonged to the former Meurthe department , which was renamed the Meurthe-et-Moselle department in 1871 . In 1871 the community was incorporated into the newly created realm of Alsace-Lorraine of the German Empire due to changes in territory due to the course of the Franco-German War (1870–1871) . The realm of Alsace-Lorraine existed until the end of the First World War (1914–1918) and was then dissolved. At that time Aboncourt-sur-Seille was in the Moselle department, this change was retained in 1918, when Moselle was again assigned to France. As a French-speaking village, Aboncourt-sur-Seille was one of the last 247 communities whose name was Germanized on September 2, 1915. The name was changed to "Abenhofen" and was the official place name until 1918.

coat of arms

The municipality's coat of arms is reminiscent of the Salival Abbey. In the heraldic left half a silver salmon is depicted on a red background, in the right half a red key on a gold background. The key is the attribute of Saint Pierre to whom the local church, built in the 18th century, is dedicated.
