Saint-Jean-Kourtzerode (German Sankt Johann-Kurzerode , 1940-1944 Kurzerode ) is a French commune in the Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ). It belongs to the arrondissement of Sarrebourg-Château-Salins . Mayor (Maire) has been Jean Grosse since 2001. The 714 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) call themselves Santi-Johaniens.

Saint-Jean-Kourtzerode is located about eleven kilometers east of Sarrebourg at an altitude between 270 and 338 m above sea level. The mean height is 320 m. The municipal area covers 1.58 km².
history
The village of Kourtzerode was mentioned for the first time in the 14th century and belonged to France from 1661, then became German again through the Peace of Frankfurt in 1871 and French again after the First World War. The region was again under German administration during the Second World War. Saint-Jean, on the other hand, was not founded until the beginning of the 18th century.
Until the Franco-Prussian War the place was called Saint-Jean-de-Courtzerode .
