Maizières-lès-Vic is a French commune with 496 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ). It belongs to the arrondissement of Sarrebourg-Château-Salins .

The municipality of Maizières-lès-Vic is located 20 kilometers east of Vic-sur-Seille and 20 kilometers west of Sarrebourg at an altitude between 217 and 299 m above sea level. The municipality covers 25.99 km².

The village lies in the catchment area of ​​the Seille , a tributary of the Moselle . In the south, the municipality extends to the Rhine-Marne Canal in the valley of the Meurthe tributary Sânon . The municipality is located in the Lorraine Regional Nature Park .

Apart from the village itself, the municipality also includes it

  • the Hellocourt Castle (German: Hellohof ) in the southeast
  • in the south the Haute Xirxange and Moulin de Xirxange farms as well as the former freight port Port Sainte-Marie on the Rhine-Marne Canal in the south

history

The place name comes from the Latin maceriae (remains of a wall), which refers to ruins from Roman times. The oldest name as place Maceriis comes from the year 1182. In the Thirty Years War Maizières-lès-Vic was completely destroyed.

The village has belonged to France since 1684, and from 1871–1918 it belonged again to the German Empire .

1915-18 and 1940-44 it bore the Germanized name Machern bei Wich .
