Juvelize is a French commune with 71 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ). It belongs to the arrondissement of Sarrebourg-Château-Salins .

geography

The municipality of Juvelize is located in Saulnois , about eight kilometers southeast of Château-Salins .

history

The village was first mentioned as Giverlize in 1160 , the German name Gerskirch is documented from 1594 . In 1661 it came to France.

From 1871 to 1918 it belonged to the German Empire and was officially renamed Geistkirch from 1915-18 . During the German occupation in World War II , the village was called Geistkirchen , and it was liberated again on September 22, 1944, badly destroyed.
