Niderviller (German Niederweiler ) is a French commune with 1218 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ). Niderviller is known worldwide for its stoneware factory.
geography
The municipality is located at the foot of the Vosges , about five kilometers south-east of Sarrebourg . The Rhine-Marne Canal runs through the north of the municipality . The districts of Niderviller are Vieux-Moulin ( Altmühle ) and Neubruch.
history
The place was destroyed and depopulated in the Thirty Years War and came to France in 1661. In 1735 the brand Niderviller Keramik was created . The place was German between 1871 and 1919 and from 1940 to 1945. The neighboring town of Oberviller, which was also destroyed, was not rebuilt.
