Hermelange (German Hermelingen ) is a French commune with 224 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Moselle department in the Grand Est region . It belongs to the arrondissement of Sarrebourg-Château-Salins .
geography
The municipality of Hermelange is located about seven kilometers southwest of Sarrebourg at an altitude between 255 and 334 m above sea level. The municipality covers 2.58 km² (258 ha). The Red and White Saar flow together between Hermelange and Lorquin .
history
The village reflects the eventful history of the regions of Alsace and Lorraine , since the Middle Ages it has belonged to the Duchy of Lorraine with all its changing affiliations, from 1661 to the French Kingdom , from 1871 to 1918 to the German Empire , and from 1919 to the third in accordance with the Treaty of Versailles French Republic , was incorporated into the Nazi state in 1940 and became part of the Fourth French Republic after the end of World War II in 1945 .
