Mittersheim is a French commune with 596 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ). It belongs to the arrondissement of Sarrebourg-Château-Salins and the canton of Sarrebourg .

geography

Mittersheim is located about 16 kilometers northwest of Sarrebourg on the Saar Canal at an altitude between 221 and 272 m above sea level. The north-east and the south of the 16.77 km² municipal area are part of the Lorraine Regional Nature Park .

The place is on the north bank of the Grand Étang de Mittersheim ( Great Mittersheimer Weiher ), which is also called Lac Vert. The hamlet of Pont-Neuf ( Neubrück ) lies on the northern border of the municipality , otherwise the municipality consists largely of forest ( Forêt de Fénétrange ).

history

Until 1766 the place belonged to the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation. Then he came to France, from 1871 to 1918 to the German Reich and from 1919 back to France.
