geography

Location and neighboring villages

Spielberg lies on a river terrace of the Kirbach, east of Ochsenbach and northwest of Hohenhaslach , which like Häfnerhaslach , the fourth municipality in the Kirbachtal, were also incorporated into the town of Sachsenheim in 1973. South of Spielberg is the Bromberger Mühle , which once belonged to the abandoned manor around Bromberg Castle . Its marking was divided between the communities of Hohenhaslach, Spielberg and Ochsenbach in 1766. Not far east of the Brombergs was the mill of the hamlet of Schippach , which burned down in 1690, above the mouth of the stream of the same name in the Kirbach.

In 1356, viticulture in Spielberg was mentioned in the Bebenhausen monastery register . The Weiberzeche , where the women of the village were supplied with plenty of wine, was common here before it was banned in 1835.

Sulzbrunnen

The Sulzbrunnen was first mentioned in 1356 in the Bebenhausen monastery register. Due to its high mineral content, it was "hard and unusable" according to the description of the Oberamt Brackenheim (Eduard Paulus: Beschreibung des Oberamt Brackenheim . Stuttgart 1873, p. 419 ( online ). ) and not suitable for drinking water supply. However, the water has been used for therapeutic purposes since 1932. The beverage manufacturer Winkels Getränke Logistik also operates the Fontanis spring in Spielberg and highlights the mineral water as one of the most calcium-rich in Germany.

history

The first documentary mention of Spielberg comes from a certificate issued by the Odenheim monastery in 1161 . In the following centuries the ownership of Spielberg changed several times before it was transferred to the House of Württemberg from the Counts of Vaihingen in 1356 . These lent Spielberg to various low-nobility feudal men . From 1480 to 1560 at the latest, it was the Lords of Riexingen .

The Thirty Years' War left Spielberg with severe damage. Then the French invasions during the wars of succession burdened the small community. Since the place could not raise funds for the renovation of the St. Wendelkirche, it had to be demolished in 1799. Originally, a new church was supposed to be built in better times, but this has not happened to this day.

Not far from the village in the Kesslerklinge, the last wolf in Württemberg was shot in 1847. The Wolfstein commemorates this event.

Under Württemberg rule, Spielberg was first assigned to the Güglingen office. This connection with the Zabergäu , from 1808 in the Oberamt Brackenheim , was maintained until 1938. From 1938 to 1973 the community belonged to the district of Vaihingen . With the administrative reform in Baden-Württemberg, Spielberg became part of the city of Sachsenheim on January 1, 1973, along with Ochsenbach, whose mayor had also been responsible for Spielberg since 1934, and has since been part of the Ludwigsburg district .

Church law, the village belonged to the Reformation to the country chapter Vaihingen in Archidiakonat Trinity of the Diocese of Speyer and since then with Ochsenbach the church district of Vaihingen .
