history

The place already existed in the reign of Charlemagne . The village was first mentioned as Glatebach in 782 on the occasion of a donation to the Lorsch Monastery in a document from the Lorsch Codex . In later times, Großglattbach was primarily the intersection of many roads on which goods from various monasteries were transported.

The Glattbach drove the mill in the Forellenweg. In the past, the water of the stream was bottled and marketed because of its good quality.

The formerly independent community Großglattbach belonged to the Oberamt Vaihingen . In 1934 it was renamed the Vaihingen district. During the district reform in 1938, the community stayed with this district. In the course of the community reform, Großglattbach was incorporated into Mühlacker, contrary to the outcome of a referendum on January 1, 1975.

Infrastructure

In Großglattbach there is a town hall , the churches of St. Markus and St. Peter. The community has a functioning association structure. A bakery and a butcher shop are available.

Großglattbach is surrounded by a landscape that has remained natural, with dry stone wall slopes partially supported by trees in front of and after the village on the left slope of the Glattbach, which flows approximately to the east. Its idyllic valley and, further along, the Kreuzbachtal with its extensive oat meadows invite you to take relaxing walks in nature. On the south-facing slope of the Kreuzbachtal towards Aurich, some rare orchid species are native to the “Großglattbacher Riedberg” nature reserve, such as belt tongue , dogwort , horn orchid and white forest birds as well as quail wheat or the parasitic summer arum .
