Gerhard Aßfahl

Gerhard Aßfahl (born April 10, 1904 in Stuttgart ; † July 27, 2007 in Zaberfeld ) was a German educator and local researcher. He was head of the Zabergäu-Gymnasium Brackenheim and the Brackenheim City Archives .

Life

Aßfahl came in 1933 as a teacher at the Latin school in Güglingen and in 1939 became headmaster of the Progymnasium in Brackenheim, which was expanded under his direction to the Zabergäu-Gymnasium. Until 1968 he was in charge of the school.

After the Second World War, Aßfahl began to be interested in the local history of the Zabergäus and became the head of the Brackenheim city archive for decades. He was the author of numerous writings on local history. His most important publications include large parts of the 1980 homeland book of the city of Brackenheim and its districts and the biography of Colonel Bernhard Schaffalitzki von Muckendell from Brackenheim during the Thirty Years' War (in Lebensbilder aus Schwaben und Franken , Volume 12, Stuttgart 1972).

In 1979 Aßfahl was made an honorary citizen by Brackenheim and in 1989 by the other four Zabergäu communities because of his services to the whole of Zabergäu. He founded the Dr. Gerhard Aßfahl Foundation, which awards the Dr. Gerhard Aßfahl Prize for extracurricular involvement in schools to selected students at the Zabergäu grammar school.

Even at the old age of over 100 years, Aßfahl was involved in local history events; In 2006, at the age of 102, he led a guided tour through the Mauritius Church in Zaberfeld.
