Betzenbuckel is a nature and landscape protection area designated by ordinance of the Karlsruhe regional council of August 1, 1997 .

location

The nature reserve is located in the Obere Gäue and Neckar Basin natural areas . It is located about 100 meters southeast of Friolzheim . The reserve includes the slopes and the summit of the 494  m above sea level. NHN high Betzenbuckels and is part of the FFH area No. 7218-341 Calwer Heckengäu . The adjacent Betzenbuckel landscape protection area (No. 2.36.045) serves as a supplement and buffer.

Protection purpose

According to the regulation, the protection purpose is:

  • The preservation and promotion of the fields and forests with the dry growth areas and sheep pastures as well as the other parts of the field on the "Betzenbuckel" and on the slopes of the "Betzenbuckel" and the Gewannes "Am Galgen" with their vegetation and floristic typical and significant facilities;
  • the preservation and promotion of a species-rich variety of uses as a habitat for typical faunas and a refuge for breeding birds, foraging and migratory bird species;
  • the maintenance and promotion of an extensively used field with species-rich hedges, with various types of hay meadows, orchards, pastures, semi-arid lawns, piles of stone piles and bars, with wasteland and small wooded areas as typical components of the limestone landscape;
  • the maintenance and promotion of the hedge and forest fringing communities as ecologically important transition areas for fauna and flora.

Flora and fauna

There is a large occurrence of the gentian species German gentian and French gentian in the area . The orchid species mosquito-handelwort is also frequently represented. In the corridors of the area the rare bird species blackcap , red backed killer and woodlark occur.
