Gengenbachtal and sinkholes south of Göbrichen is a protected landscape area in the Enzkreis (protected area number 2.36.009).

Location and description

The 339.8 hectare landscape protection area was created by ordinance of the then Pforzheim District Office of July 31, 1952. It consists of two sub-areas and is on the markings of six municipalities:

It encompasses the valley of the Gengenbach, southeast of Königsbach-Stein. The second sub-area is around four kilometers away, is located south of Göbrichen and belongs to the natural area 125- Kraichgau within the natural spatial main unit 12- Neckar- and Tauber-Gäuplatten . The Eisinger Gäulandschaft landscape protection area , which also consists of two parts, borders on both parts of the area. Parts of the protected area are in FFH area No. 7017-341 Pfinzgau Ost .

Protection purpose

The main protection purpose is the protection of the Gengenbach valley as an untouched meadow valley accompanied on both sides by forest-covered slopes. The sub-area near Göbrichen also serves as a buffer zone and supplementary area for the nature reserve No. 2055- Neulinger Dolinen enclosed by the LSG . For ecological, geological and scientific reasons, the protection purpose here is the preservation of the picturesque meadow landscape with numerous sinkholes in a drainless depression. The need for protection is given in particular due to the geological significance of the sinkholes and the ecological value of the meadows, reed beds, bushes and trees of varying degrees of moisture.
