Waldach- und Haiterbachtal is a nature reserve designated by the Karlsruhe Regional Council of December 31, 1992 with the number 2.163.

location

The nature reserve is located in the Obere Gäue and Schwarzwald-Randplatten natural areas . It is part of FFH area No. 7418-341 Nagolder Heckengäu and consists of 4 sub-areas: Schwandorfer Tal (in the Waldachtal west of Iselshausen ), Obere Sommerhalde (in the Waldachtal east of Unterschwandorf ), Unterm wüsten Acker (in the Waldachtal northwest of Unterschwandorf) and Kohlhalde (in the Haiterbachtal west of Unterschwandorf). The 4 sub-areas are bordered by the 307 hectare protected landscape area No. 2.35.049 Waldach- and Haiterbachtal , which serves as a buffer and supplement.

Protection purpose

According to the ordinance, the protection purpose is the preservation, development and care of the near-natural, richly structured landscape section of the Waldachau and Haiterbachaue with the adjacent valley slopes as a habitat for typical, specialized animal and plant species. The diverse types of dry areas as well as humid and alternately humid biotopes with the rare protected animal and plant species that live in them must be protected.

Flora and fauna

The endangered asparagus peas grow on the wet meadows . On the forest-free, south-facing slopes of the area there are juniper heaths with rare orchids such as the bee ragwort and the fly ragwort . The real daphne grows in the mixed forests and kingfisher , dipper and gray wagtail breed in the precipices on the banks of the Waldach .
