history

middle Ages

Schwandorf Castle

Haiterbach was first mentioned in a document in 1099. In the 13th century it belonged to the Palatine County of Tübingen , which it lost to the Counts of Hohenberg towards the end of the century . The city rights were awarded Haiterbach 1349th Until it died out in 1384, the medieval castle there was the seat of the Lords of Haiterbach. These were feudal men of the Counts of Hohenberg. In 1363 Otto II von Hohenberg sold his county together with Nagold and Haiterbach to Count Eberhard the Greiner of Württemberg .

Württemberg time

In administrative terms, the city now belonged to the Württemberg Office of Nagold, which in 1758 became the Upper Office of Nagold . Even with the new administrative structure in the Kingdom of Württemberg , which was founded in 1806, Haiterbach's assignment to the Nagold Office was retained.

In 1807 a city fire destroyed the building stock so extensively that the original medieval floor plan of the city was lost. The medieval castle was also demolished as a result.

During the district reform in Württemberg during the Nazi era , Haiterbach became part of the Calw district in 1938 . Towards the end of the Second World War , Haiterbach was bombed on April 16, 1945.

post war period

After the Second World War, Haiterbach fell into the French occupation zone and thus came to the newly founded state of Württemberg-Hohenzollern in 1947 . In 1952, the provisional post-war state was added to the administrative district of Südwürttemberg-Hohenzollern and has since been part of the new federal state of Baden-Württemberg.

With the district reform on January 1, 1973 , the district of Calw became part of the newly established Northern Black Forest region , which was assigned to the administrative district of Karlsruhe . Since then, Pforzheim and Karlsruhe have also been involved in decisions on Haiterbach's affairs.

Catholic parish of Haiterbach

The Catholic parish with its Peter Julian-Eymard Church in Haiterbach is a sub-parish of the Heilig Geist parish in Altensteig . Before 1963 the Haiterbach Catholics belonged to the parish of Gündringen . When the Heilig Geist parish was established in 1963, Haiterbach and Unterschwandorf came to the Heilig Geist Altensteig parish after a hearing from the political communities. Since the Haiterbach Catholics did not yet have a church, the Protestant community made their parish hall available for services, which was not a matter of course.

Planning began as early as 1964. Finally, a church with a free-standing tower was built, which was inaugurated on October 16, 1966 by Bishop Carl Joseph Leiprecht and was named after Peter Julian-Eymard, who lived in France in the 19th century, who was given the name of Pope John XXIII in 1962 . was canonized.

In 1967 the tower received two bells and the Haiterbach partner community Metnitz from Austria presented the Catholic community with a statue of the Virgin Mary . In 1975 a third donated bell could be hung.

The Catholic Women's Circle financed the cross above the altar and the Way of the Cross through donations that were collected through festivals and raffles.

Buildings

  • The Laurentiuskirche Haiterbach still bears the name it was once consecrated in: Laurentiuskirche. Laurentius died a martyr's death in Rome in 258 AD with an impressive confession of his God and Lord Jesus Christ on his lips. The earliest mention of the church goes back to 1150. The Romanesque tower still preserved dates from this period , apart from the much later upper part. In the early Gothic period, a cross vault was added to the lower floor of the tower as the choir of the previous church. Today the room serves as a sacristy , at the same time as a parent-child room with a divine service broadcast. With its wooden figures of biblical figures, it is a special gem of the church. Wall paintings with depictions of Saints Catherine, Barbara and Margaretha as well as a baptismal font from that time are still preserved. There is no trace of the original nave (nave), its size and construction. Only so much is known that it joined the tower choir with its lengthways direction from west to east. The nave was destroyed in the town fire in 1554 and a year later the nave, which extends from the north to the new south choir, was rebuilt on the west side of the tower. The 5/8 choir with tall rectangular windows without Gothic tracery contains a low organ gallery with eight expressive apostle portraits in the parapet. The stalls in the nave, galleries and choir are aligned on four sides to the wooden pulpit on the right of the choir arch. The tendril wall painting with a quotation from the Bible on the choir arch characterizes the neo-Gothic interior design from 1857. The cemetery for the parent community and the branch community was laid out around the church.
  • The Beihinger Church dates from the 13th century, as evidenced by the church tower. Until after the Second World War it contained the vaulted tower choir with a choir arch opening to the west. The nave there was demolished in favor of a street plan and replaced in 1953/1954 by the addition of a new, east-facing nave (axially offset a little to the south) with an adjoining choir and sacristy. The large mural behind the altar with the motif of the Majestas Domini and the accompanying trumpet angels from Revelation comes from the Stuttgart artist Wolf-Dieter Kohler . The oldest witnesses of local history can be found in the early Gothic church tower: its bells are up to 700 years old. The two oldest were probably cast in Rottweil in the 14th century (tuning in “F sharp” in “A”). Unfortunately, it is no longer possible to trace where these bells come from. Their old age always saved the bells from melting down during the wars, as the alloy once used in casting was not suitable for ammunition. When the bells cracked, they were supplemented by another bell tuned to "E" in July 1961, and they were later repaired using modern methods.
  • The Severuskirche Oberschwandorf , built in 1725 on the site of a previous church, had to be completely renovated in 1763–1766 after massive weather damage and equipped with a multi-sided gallery for the larger population, which was initially intended for the organ in the east. The rectangular hall church with a 3/8 room closure has a larger roof turret with a bell room. During the renovation in 1974, the organ gallery behind the altar was removed and the east and south-east windows were fitted out with lead glazing on the themes of Passion / Easter and Pentecost / Acts by the Stuttgart glass artist Adolf Valentin Saile .
Jewish Cemetery
  • About one kilometer west of the village of Unterschwandorf there is also the Jewish cemetery of Unterschwandorf as evidence of a small Jewish community that existed in the 19th century.
