history

In the 19th century there was a small Jewish community in Unterschwandorf. The barons of the Kechler von Schwandorf protected not only free church people but also Jewish citizens. They issued the first letters of protection for Jews around 1799 and a cemetery was set up in 1801. About one kilometer west of the village, a small area with 6.34 acres was fenced off above the Waldach. Funerals were held there until 1879, when the Jewish community dissolved again due to emigration. In 1969 the cemetery was repaired, and in 1990 it was documented by students from Otto Hahn High School in Nagold. The way to the cemetery is signposted, there are 17 tombstones, e.g. Some of them are only preserved in fragments.

Gottlieb Moses Dessauer was mayor of Schwandorf until his death in the 1840s.
