Karl Schübel

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Karl Schübel (born November 26, 1904 in Haiterbach ; † December 4, 2000 in Aalen ) was a German local politician in the city of Aalen. He was mayor ( NSDAP ) from 1935 to 1945 and mayor (independent) from 1950 to 1975.

Life

Schübel, who holds a doctorate in administrative law, was appointed mayor of Aalen in March 1935 by the Württemberg Ministry of the Interior as the successor to the then administrative administrator Karl Barth (NSDAP). After the end of the Second World War, he was deposed by the American military government in July 1945 as the last of the mayors to serve in the Third Reich. On May 18, a community council had already been formed in Aalen. As part of the denazification , Schübel was classified in the second instance in the group of followers.

In May 1950, Karl Schübel was elected Lord Mayor of the city of Aalen after the death of the then incumbent Otto Balluff. When he was elected, he received 87% of the votes cast from among three applicants, with a turnout of 81%. Election posters of the opposing candidate Peter Lahnstein had been smeared with anti-Semitic slogans because of his Jewish descent.

In 1956 and 1968, Karl Schübel was also re-elected with a convincing majority. Because of his many services to the city, the local council granted him honorary citizenship in 1974. In 1975 Schübel retired.
