Wolf-Dieter Kohler
Wolf-Dieter Kohler (born March 13, 1928 in Pforzheim ; † December 23, 1985 ) was a German art and glass painter .
Career
Wolf-Dieter Kohler was born on March 13, 1928 into a family of artists. His mother Elise Kohler geb. Schleppe was an expressive dancer and taught this dance form in the style of Mary Wigman. Wolf-Dieter Kohler attended the old-language Eberhard-Ludwigs-Gymnasium in Stuttgart. When he was seventeen, he and his classmates were forced to work on a FLAK gun to ward off air raids on Stuttgart. Wolf-Dieter Kohler created paintings, mosaics, reliefs and church windows in more than 200 churches, mainly in Baden-Württemberg. Kohler also designed wall hangings and altar crosses. He first got to know the profession of visual artist from his father Walter Kohler . He came from a family of theologians over many generations, but became a painter and co-founder of the “Stuttgart Secession”. Wolf-Dieter Kohler studied at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart from 1946 and became a master student of Rudolf Yelin . In 1951 Kohler settled in Stuttgart as a freelance artist . One focus of his art was the implementation of biblical motifs in architecture-related works. Bishop i. RD Helmut Claß says of him: “Without a doubt, the focus is on his figurative, personal work. Man - not as a caricature of himself, but as a creature opposite of God, should be clearly recognizable. ”In addition, there is an intensive early work with landscape watercolors and portraits in oil. He practiced oil painting in all creative phases. Professor Rüdiger Görner (London) writes: "Kohler's landscapes are home to the viewer in color". A serious illness put an end to his artistic work in 1985.
After two generations of artists, the son Christian Kohler, born in 1958, continued the pastoral tradition.
