History and description

The origins of Martinskirche Neuffen can be found in the 7th century. However, there are no more documented remains of previous buildings. A church in Neuffen is mentioned for the first time in 1232.

Today's church was built as an early Gothic three-aisled basilica between 1300 and 1350. The nave has 5 bays and a flat coffered ceiling . In the side aisles , a coffered ceiling with a roof pitch forms the upper end. The central nave wall rests on round columns connected by pointed arches. The High Gothic choir was as high choir with two kreuzgratgewölbten yokes and a 5 / 8 -Schluss built. To the south of the choir is the Gothic sacristy . To the north of the choir rises the tower, the half-timbered bell-room and helmet from the time after a town fire in 1634.

In 1932 the church was radically renovated and rebuilt by Hans Seytter . The coffered ceilings, the chairs and the gallery as well as the pulpit date from this period. Walter Kohler created the middle choir window. In 1957 the tower was renovated, in 1962/63 new stained glass windows by Wolf-Dieter Kohler , and in 1981 the exterior was renovated.
