Oberer Gründel is a nature reserve designated by the Karlsruhe Regional Council of December 29, 1989 with the number 2.126.
location
The nature reserve is located in the Black Forest-Randplatten natural area about 1000 meters northwest of the Haiterbach district of Beihingen .
Protection purpose
According to the ordinance, the protection purpose is the preservation and promotion of a typical natural landscape as a site for semi-arid grassland communities with numerous endangered plant species and as a habitat for endangered amphibians, butterflies and birds in particular.
Flora and fauna
In the semi-arid grasslands of the area you can find: German fringed gentian , common fringed gentian , silver thistle , golden thistle , pigeon scabiosa and the stemless scraper . The area's small ponds are important spawning waters for the common frog , common toad and newt .
