The Schurmsee is a cirque lake belonging to the municipality of Forbach in the northern Black Forest between Hundsbach and Schönmünzach .
The at an altitude of 794 m above sea level. The lake at NHN covers an area of 1.6 hectares and is up to 13 meters deep, the water content is around 180,000 cubic meters.
From the 960 m high Schurmsee you have a good view of the whole lake, which can be circled on a hiking trail. The normal route to Schurmsee runs on a wide forest path from Schönmünzach, the distance is around four kilometers with a difference in altitude of around 300 meters.
Protected areas
The lake and the shores of 7.8 hectares in total were declared a nature reserve Schurmsee in 1985 . A 153.9 hectare landscape protection area of the same name was designated around this protected area. The forests on the steep slopes around the lake are also designated as protected forests . The lake and its surroundings are a geotope . In addition, the lake and its surroundings are an FFH area and a bird sanctuary in accordance with the European nature conservation legislation Natura 2000.
