Albrecht Geck

Albrecht Geck (born June 5, 1962 in Recklinghausen ) is a German Protestant theologian , teacher and university professor.

Life

After graduating from high school Petrinum in Recklinghausen (Abitur in 1981), Albrecht Geck studied Protestant theology , religious education , philosophy and English at the Philipps University in Marburg, the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster and at Ripon College Cuddesdon in Oxford (GB). He passed his first and second state examinations (Sek I / II) in the subjects of religious studies and English. Since then he has worked as a teacher at secondary schools and grammar schools, since 2004 at the Pestalozzi grammar school in Herne . In 1994 Geck received his doctorate. theol. with a work on church history about Schleiermacher as a church politician .

From the winter semester 1996/97 to the summer semester 2004 he was a lecturer for church history as well as church history and its didactics at the University of Dortmund , the Ev. University of Applied Sciences Rhineland-Westphalia-Lippe in Bochum and the Ruhr University Bochum . Since the summer semester of 2008, he has been a lecturer in historical theology (church, dogma and denominational history) at the University of Osnabrück , where he completed his habilitation in church history in 2008 and was given the position of private lecturer in church history in the same year . In 2012 he was appointed adjunct professor at the University of Osnabrück. Since 2010 he has also been honorary director of the Institute for Contemporary Church History of the Recklinghausen Church District (IKZG-RE). From the 2014/15 winter semester to the 2015/16 winter semester he held a substitute professorship for systematic theology at the Institute for Protestant Theology at the University of Osnabrück.

In 2013 he was appointed by the Evangelical Church of Westphalia (EKvW) as a member of the regional church "Commission for Church Contemporary History".

Geck researched, among other things, on Karl Bauer (1868–1942) as Martin Luther's most active portraitist in the 20th century. In his essay Von Cranach on the BILD newspaper (2014) he presented the basics of a church and cultural history of the last 500 years as reflected in portraits of Luther. In the year of the Reformation anniversary in 2017, Geck curated the exhibitions Von Cranach zu BILD-Zeitung and Luther in the sights of images .
