In the 1950s, the school was given its current name in memory of the Swiss pedagogue Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi . In 1958 a social and economic branch was set up in addition to the bilingual one. Another move, this time to the new building in Ostbachtal, enabled the renovation of the old building on Neustraße in 1964. In the 1960s, the mathematical and scientific high school branch was set up as the second train. Mixed-gender teaching has been used again since the 1970s.
In 1977 the construction of the new school building on Harpener Weg, today's location, began.

There is also the project “Students help students”, whereby older high-performing students give tuition to younger low-achieving students.
