There are 28 current nature reserves , all or part of which are located in the Rastatt district. The Karlsruhe Regional Council is responsible for the designation of nature reserves .

Baden-Baden (urban district), Iffezheim (Rastatt district) One of the most important sandy areas in Baden-Württemberg and a habitat for rare and protected animal and plant species. Goats and sheep help preserve the habitats. They are not fed and thus deprive the area of undesirable nutrients. This promotes low-growing sand bells, thyme and silver grass. The subsoil consists of gravel, which was covered by drifting sand at the end of the Ice Age. One of the highest dunes in Baden can be seen in the forest at a height of 21 meters. |

Forbach The reserve was added to the Black Forest National Park in 2014 . Flat dome made of middle red sandstone (1000 to 1054 m above sea level) southwest of the Schwarzenbachtalsperre. Former pasture area (Grinde) from earlier centuries, which is reforested after grazing has ceased. After the mountain pine stage (mountain pines and spirits) has passed, z. Z. the spruce, the pine stands. In the transition stage, the mountain pines z. Sometimes erect and can thus survive the competition with the advancing spruce longer. In some places hints of silver fir; Bannwald (LWaldG § 32). |
