List of nature reserves in Karlsruhe

There are eight nature reserves in the Karlsruhe district . Five of them are completely in the urban district, three of which Karlsruhe is shared with communities in the neighboring district of Karlsruhe . The Karlsruhe Regional Council is responsible for the designation of nature reserves .

Former floodplains of the Rhine with an old Rhine arm, a quarry pond, the lower reaches of the Alb and various types of forests. There are over 500 plant species and 130 bird species, including water walnuts , reeds , white willow forests, hardwood meadows , oak and hornbeam forests , several species of woodpecker and the oriole .

More than 80 species of birds, over 100 species of moths and more than 280 different species of flowering plants have so far been found at the old airfield.
