In the district of Heidenheim , there are 15 nature reserves. The Stuttgart Regional Council is responsible for the designation of nature reserves . According to the protected area statistics of the State Institute for the Environment, Measurements and Nature Conservation Baden-Württemberg (LUBW), 1,364.82 hectares of the district are under nature protection, that is 2.18 percent.
