In the district of Konstanz , there are 65 nature reserves. The Freiburg regional council is responsible for the designation of nature reserves . According to the protected area statistics of the State Institute for the Environment, Measurements and Nature Conservation Baden-Württemberg (LUBW), 3,678.56 hectares of the district area are under nature protection, that is 4.50 percent.

The double-peaked basalt group used to have three peaks. North summit removed by quarrying.
