The Weitenried is a nature reserve in the area of ​​the communities Singen , Steißlingen and Volkertshausen in the district of Konstanz in Baden-Württemberg . It covers around 218  hectares of a large meadow area, was designated as a nature reserve in 1978 and is of particular importance as a breeding and moulting biotope for the bird world.

Protection purpose

According to the Protected Area Ordinance, the main protection purpose is the preservation of the Weitenried as a habitation area, in particular breeding area, food biotope and moulting area for rare bird species, some of which are threatened with extinction, as a habitat for rare wetland flora and as a spacious natural landscape with a view of the nearby Hegau Mountains.
