The Hohentwiel area is a nature reserve designated by ordinance of March 29, 2004 (NSG number 3.268) in the Baden-Württemberg district of Konstanz in Germany .

location

The approximately 138 hectare large nature reserve "Hohentwiel" is one of the natural area for Hegau . It surrounds the eponymous Hohentwiel in the area of ​​the municipality of Hilzingen and the city of Singen . The area is about one and a half kilometers west of Singen city center, at an altitude of about 440 to 686  m above sea level. NHN .

Geologically , the Hohentwiel is part of a unit that includes the Hegau and western Lake Constance . The different layers of the environment were created by sedimentation . With the formation of the Alps , volcanic activity began in the region. A remnant of it is the original Hohentwiel, filled with tuff , as a large chimney . The nature reserve "Hohentwiel" includes the landscape protection areas " Hegau " (3.35.004) and " Hohentwiel " (3.35.016), the FFH area " Westlicher Hegau " (DE-8218-341) and the bird sanctuary " Hohentwiel / Hohenkrähen " (DE-8218-401) designated as contiguous protected areas.
