The spotted- winged ant maiden ( Euroleon nostras ) is a reticulated wing from the family of the ant maiden (Myrmeleontidae). It is the only species of the genus in Europe.
features
The animals have a fore wing length of 25 to 33 millimeters. Their wings are very variably spotted. They can be of similar species by the Flügeladerung differ by Conspicuous stain and between the radius and radius sector near the front edge of the rear wing.
Occurrence
The species occurs in Europe to the south of Sweden and can be found almost everywhere in southern and central Europe . In Central Europe it only lives in locations below 500 meters above sea level.
Way of life
The nocturnal adults fly from June to September. During the day they are hidden in the vegetation. The larvae , which are colloquially referred to as ant lions , prefer to build their trap funnels in loose soil under roots in areas protected from rain in warm forests. They are common in some places. They overwinter as a larva and are fully developed after two years.
