Nomada pleurosticta is a bee from the family of Apidae .

features

The bees are 9 to 11 millimeters long. The head and thorax of the females are black and drawn in red. The tergites are red, but often also black. The labrum is black and has a large tooth in the middle. The third antenna segment is the same length as the fourth. The scutellum has two red spots. The propodeum has thick, short hair. The rails ( tibia ) of the hind legs are pointed at the end and have several long spikes. In the males the head is black and is marked yellow, the thorax is also black but is marked red. The tergites are red and partially black at the base. The mandibles are provided with a tooth in the middle on the outside. The labrum has a strong tooth and is more or less black. The third antenna segment is significantly shorter than the fourth. The middle sensor elements are each provided with a pointed tooth at the bottom. The label is black or has two small red spots and is heavily humped. The thighs ( femora ) of the rear legs have a patch of hair with long hair at the bottom. The rails of the hind legs are drawn out to a blunt point at the end and have several short thorns that are difficult to see in the hair.

Occurrence and way of life

The species is common in southern and central Europe. The animals fly from early June to late August. They parasitize Andrena polita .
