Sauldorfer Baggerseen is a nature reserve in the Baden-Württemberg municipalities of Sauldorf in the district of Sigmaringen (NSG number 4.235) and Mühlingen in the district of Konstanz (NSG number 3.198) in Germany .

By ordinance of December 22, 1993, the Tübingen Regional Council placed the area under nature protection.

location

By gravel mining the northeast to the upper created in the upper valley Donau current Ablach five lakes, which are separated from one another by dams. The nature reserve is 620  m above sea level. NHN in the area of ​​the municipality of Sauldorf (district Sauldorf) and the municipality of Mühlingen (district Mainwangen ) directly adjacent to the place southwest of Sauldorf. It belongs to the natural area 040- Danube-Ablach-Platten within the natural spatial main unit 04- Danube-Iller-Lech-Platte .

Protection purpose

The main protection purpose is the preservation and improvement of the Sauldorf quarry ponds and the adjacent valley floodplain areas, which are ecologically linked with the lakes, as breeding, resting and feeding biotopes for numerous animal species, in particular for endangered bird species, but also for amphibians, aquatic insects and small fish.

This means in particular that in the area of ​​the lakes the open water surface and the adjacent bank areas calm down and that the reed beds, the silted vegetation, the vegetation-free gravel and silt areas, shallow water zones and small bodies of water are preserved.

The floodplain should be kept open and the existing grassland areas preserved. The promotion of extensive grassland management and the reconversion of plowed-up areas, including through land acquisition, are planned. The rivers and ditches and their vegetation should be preserved and optimized.

Partner protected areas

The reserve borders the nature reserve " Schwacke Reuter lakes-Rübelisbach " (no. 3273/4314) and is part of approximately 514 hectares large FFH area " Ablach, lakes and Waltere Moor " (no. 8020341).
