The Ablach, Baggerseen and Waltere Moor area is a protected area (protected area identifier DE-8020-341) registered by ordinance of January 1, 2005 by the Freiburg and Tübingen regional councils in accordance with Directive 92/43 / EEC (Fauna-Flora-Habitat Directive ) in the south of the German state of Baden-Württemberg . With the ordinance of the regional council of Freiburg on the definition of areas of community importance of October 25, 2018, the protected area was established.
location
The approximately 514 hectares (ha) large reserve "Ablach, lakes and Waltere Moor" is one of the natural area of the Danube Ablach plates . Its four sub-areas extend for the most part along the Ablachtal in two districts , three municipalities and one city :
- District of Constance (262.0 ha)
- District of Sigmaringen (256.9 ha)
Protection purpose
The main protection purpose is the preservation of the Waltere Moors - the westernmost transition moor in Upper Swabia , the course of the Ablach river with its side waters and a small floodplain area south of Meßkirch.
Habitats
The diversity of dry and humid habitat types in the protected area is represented by, among other things, "lime-rich, nutrient-poor still waters with chandelier algae", "natural, nutrient-rich lakes", "flowing waters with flooding water vegetation", "whistle grass meadows", "lean flatland hay meadows", "transitional meadows" and swinging turf bogs ”and“ floodplain forests with alders, ash trees, willows ”.

Contiguous protected areas
The FFH area "Ablach, Baggerseen and Waltere Moor" includes the " Obere Donau Nature Park " and the nature reserves " Waltere Moor " (3.157 and 4.133), " Schwackenreuter Baggerseen-Rübelisbach " (3.273 and 4.314) and " Sauldorfer Baggerseen " ( 3.198 and 4.235) designated as contiguous protected areas.
Flora and fauna

The following animal species , listed in Annex II of Directive 92/43 / EEC, are recorded in the protected area: river mussel ( Unio crassus ), dark blue bluebell ( Maculinea nausithous ), yellow-bellied toad ( Bombina variegata ) and bullhead ( Cottus gobio ).
