The area of Mettnau and Radolfzeller Aach below Singen is a protected area (protected area identifier DE-8219-341) in the south that was designated by the Freiburg Regional Council in accordance with Directive 92/43 / EEC (Fauna-Flora-Habitat Directive) of January 1, 2005 of the German state of Baden-Württemberg .
location
The approximately 1,742 hectare (ha) protected area “Mettnau and Radolfzeller Aach below Singen” is part of the Hegau natural area . Its three sub-areas extend in the district of Constance along the Radolfzeller Aach from Singen in the north via Rielasingen-Worblingen and Radolfzell to its confluence with the Zeller See in the southeast as well as the Mettnau and a sub-area south of the federal highway 33 near Böhringen . They are distributed over the two cities and three municipalities :
- City of Singen (Hohentwiel): 22% = 383.2436 ha
- City of Radolfzell on Lake Constance : 17% = 296.1428 ha
- Municipality of Moos : 13% = 226.4621 ha
- Rielasingen-Worblingen municipality: 1% = 17.4201 ha
- Community Steißlingen : 1% = 17.4201 ha
Protection purpose
An essential purpose of protection of the FFH area "Mettnau and Radolfzeller Aach below singing" is the preservation significant of geological, würmeiszeitlich embossed moraines landscape of Aach run with great Ried complex natural orifice area, Auwald, Verlandungs- and litter meadow complexes of Mettnau and shallow water of Lake Zell.
The area with marshy meadows, lime-rich still waters and swamps, gravel terraces, meltwater channels , terminal moraines and dead ice holes is a fish spawning area as well as feeding, breeding and wintering areas for water birds.

The following animal species , listed in Annex II of Directive 92/43 / EEC, are included in the protected area: the yellow-bellied toad ( Bombina variegata ), the northern crested newt ( Triturus cristatus ), the European beaver ( Castor fiber ), the dark ( Maculinea nausithous ) and the light meadow button - Blue ant ( Maculinea teleius ), bulbous diaper snail ( Vertigo moulinsiana ) and narrow diaper snail ( Vertigo angustior ), bullhead ( Cottus gobio ) and brook lamprey ( Lampetra planeri ) as well as the helmet azure mermaid ( Coenagrion mercuriale ).
