Surname
The name Murg can be traced back to the Radolfzeller Aach in the High Middle Ages . This name is completely unknown to the local population today.
geography
Aachtopf
The water of the Aach comes from an 18 m deep underground karst cave and about two thirds comes from the sinking of the Danube between Immendingen and Möhringen as well as near Fridingen .
course
After its origin, it flows through the Hegau and numerous nature reserves as the Hegauer Aach . It flows first in a southerly direction to Singen (Hohentwiel) , where it is crossed by the Scheffel Bridge, then to the east and is called Radolfzeller Aach in its lower reaches . The last six kilometers of the lower course run in the Radolfzeller Aachried nature reserve . With an average discharge rate of ten cubic meters per second, it flows into Lake Constance as the fourth largest inflow . The mouth is located between Radolfzell on Lake Constance and Moos in the north-western part of the Untersee , the Zellersee.
Catchment area
The Radolfzeller Aach drains a catchment area of 261 km². If you add the catchment area of the Danube before the Danube sinking due to the Aachtopf, it drains a catchment area of around 1,560 km² on the days of full infiltration of the Danube.
Hydrology
In earlier times the water power of the fast flowing Radolfzeller Aach was used for many mills . Today there are several hydropower plants on its banks. There are renaturation measures in Beuren an der Aach , for example , where a sediment trap was set up in front of the Singen district to catch the sediments and gravel that the river carries with it. Initial considerations of returning the sediment above Volkertshausen to the river were given up.
fauna
Several threatened water bird species can be found on the Radolfzeller Aach. a. Common sandpipers , wood sandpipers and wood sandpipers . The beaver first settled in the estuary in 1998 after 200 years . Morphologically, the Radolfzeller Aach belongs to the lower trout and grayling region . The main fish species in the Aach is the brown trout, as the grayling is more exposed to the feeding pressure of the large cormorant colony in the Radolfzeller Aachried due to its low shyness . There are also larger stocks of the endangered fish species brook lamprey and bullhead , which live protected on the bottom. Other fish species from Lake Constance are also found in the lower reaches.
Localities
On the Radolfzeller Aach are the villages of Aach , Volkertshausen , Beuren an der Aach , Friedinger Riedmühle, Hausen an der Aach , Singen (Hohentwiel) , Rielasingen-Worblingen , Bohlingen and the Radolfzeller district of Rickelshausen.
water sports
Due to the strong source of the Aach, the Radolfzeller Aach is open to canoes all year round. However, the section Aachbad Singen to Bohlingen is not recommended due to many water drains and heavy industrialization. The lower reaches of the nature reserve are closed to water sports all year round.
