Friedingen is located northwest of the Untersee , part of Lake Constance , in central Hegau in the middle of the district of Konstanz in Baden-Württemberg and has been a district of Singen (Hohentwiel) since 1971 . Friedingen is 448  m above sea level. NHN , has a municipal area of 990 hectares and has 1,502 inhabitants (December 31, 2019). This results in a population density of 151.7 inhabitants per km².

geography

Geographical location

Friedingen extends on an Ice Age gravel terrace above the humid valley of the Radolfzeller Aach . The settlement body extends from the steep slopes of the Buchberg 497.2  m above sea level. NHN in the west, along the Egelsee , to the Friedinger Schlossberg 547.2  m above sea level. NHN in the east, which, as a widely visible landmark, represents the highest elevation in the Friedingen district. In the north-west Friedingen has a share in the northern, in the south-east in the southern Hegau lowlands, also called Singener Kiesfeld, which both form the western part of the Lake Constance basin, separated from each other by the mountain range of Buchberg, Friedinger Schlossberg, Jöhlisberg and Fronholz. The lowest point in the northern basin of the Friedingen district is in the Hausener Aachried nature reserve at a height of approx. 430  m above sea level. NHN . The lowest point in the southern basin and the lowest point Friedingens on the banks of which began in 2009 excavated lake and is depending on the water level in the lake, at about 417  m above sea level. NHN .

climate

The climate in Friedingen is mild. The slightly elevated terrace location causes cold air to run off during radiation nights, which leads to less cooling, towards the Egelsee depression and the Aach valley. This becomes clear in the latter in the form of low-level fog , which is partly dominated by tall trees and bushes. Fresh air comes from the extensive forest areas, which extend around the Friedinger Schlossberg and the Buchberg, which rightly bears this name, directly on the outskirts and thus also serve optimally for local recreation .

Friedingen has the lowest average annual rainfall in Hegau with 728 liters per m².

Waters

The main river in the Hegau is the Radolfzeller Aach . From the bridge at the entrance to Beuren an der Aach , which also forms the northernmost point of the district , Friedingen has a share of around 2200 m in it. In addition, some smaller streams such as Fallenwiesengraben, Krautländergraben or Rebmannsweihergraben u. A., towards the northwest and west towards the Aach, whereby the Dauchenberg Canal, which was created artificially to irrigate the Dauchenberg and runs almost parallel to the Aach, draws its water almost entirely from the Aach.

The Egelsee is a heavily silted up dead ice hole that still has some open ponds. In earlier times the Litzelsee filled with water after heavy rain or snowmelt. Two fish ponds of considerable size, as they can still be found today in Upper Swabia, were drained and are traversed and drained by the Krautländergraben and the Rebmannsweihergraben. The pond dams are still there from these fishes that once belonged to the castle . At the same time, gravel mining has been creating a new lake in the southeast of the district since 2009, the Friedinger See , which will one day be the second largest in the district and the fourth largest in Baden-Württemberg. In phase 1 (until December 31, 2024), the largest floating dredger in Germany will provide a depth of 60 m and an area of 20.6 hectares. In the final stage, this lake will be 112 hectares in size.

Neighboring municipalities and neighboring towns

Friedingen is bordered by the following communities and districts of Singen: Steißlingen in the northeast, Überlingen am Ried in the southeast, Singen am Hohentwiel in the southwest, Hausen an der Aach in the northwest and Beuren an der Aach in the north (all district of Konstanz ).

Local division

Friedingen consists of the town itself and the following five residential spaces :

A brick hut , which was about 400 m northwest of the Neuhaus at the edge of the forest, was mentioned in 1559 and demolished around 1850. In the Friedingen district there are also the two abandoned villages Dirishofen and Hondorf, which is on the prehistoric road connection between Eschenz and Laiz .

history

In Roman times , a Roman road led along the Rhaetian western border, the Rhaetian border road, from Eschenz via Stein am Rhein , Rielasingen to Friedingen and on via Wiechs and Orsingen to Laiz . This road was not a new connecting route, rather it followed the course of a trade route from the Hallstatt-La-Tène period , which led past groups of burial mounds from the Hallstatt period . In the forest southwest of Friedingen there are over 50 of these burial mounds with a height of up to 1.5 m. 1877 was found in Won a brick with the stamp of the "Romans target" Legion XI , who in 1911 in Rosgartenmuseum in Konstanz should have been. In the middle of the 5th century the peaceful settlement of the Alemanni begins , whose oldest places in Hegau all end in “ -ingen ”, and the relatives of Fridos settle on the terrace in front of the Friedinger Schlossberg. Since the end of the 7th century, the large open spaces between the “ingen places”, including the area around the original mark of Friedingen, with the places ending in “-hausen”, “-hofen” and “-beuren” have begun to fill. From Friedingen , for example, Beuren an der Aach was founded in the 9th century as a so-called inland colonization . Around 1931 a Merovingian grave was found. More graves were found in 1952 and 1982. The last time it was discovered in Schlossbergstrasse, a Franziska dated to the 6th century, the first of its kind found in Hegau, came to light. These grave finds were interpreted as a burial ground, the early medieval settlement of which is said to have been a little further west, on a small stream that drains to the Radolfzeller Aach . In addition, there are pits of settlement sites on the Buchberg and on the banks of the Egelsee, the age of which has not yet been determined. Friedingen, called Friedingen an der Aach in 1809., Was first mentioned in 1090 as in villa, que dicitur Fridinga, in pago Hegouva . For a long time Friedingen belonged to the Landgraviate of Nellenburg and thus to Austria. On June 2, 1806 Friedingen fell to Württemberg and has belonged to the Grand Duchy of Baden since October 2, 1810 . On December 1, 1971, Friedingen was incorporated into the city of Singen as part of the regional reform in Baden-Württemberg, together with other municipalities that were previously independent, as the largest district in terms of both area and population.

Population development

Population development from 1800 to 2017 according to the table below

The following tables show the population development of Friedingen from 1800 to 1994 and from 2002 to today. The figures come from various sources up to 1994, which are given under literature. As of 2002, it concerns the population statistics of the city of Singen.

The population is growing more slowly than it would be for a place of comparable attractiveness, due to the good infrastructure, the favorable location and the wonderful landscape that surrounds the place. This is mainly due to the decades-long lack of free building sites available on the market, caused by the city of Singen, which prevents new building areas here and prefers them in other districts, and due to property owners who do not make their land available for development. Many builders who actually wanted to live in Friedingen had to switch to neighboring towns and communities, although the city of Singen actually wants to grow. Nevertheless, a rising number of inhabitants can be recorded in the long term, although there have been no settlement expansions in recent years, in contrast to other places that have extensive new development areas and, curiously, are still shrinking. The very small residential area “Unterm Einsatz 2”, which covers around 1.5 hectares and has been completely built on for years, was recently developed at the end of the last millennium.

In the 1970s, the planning was very different. At that time 10,000 citizens were to live in the district closest to the core city. There would certainly be enough space, but luckily it didn't get that far. In this way Friedingen was able to retain its rural character and charm.

Family history

The Friedinger family history was researched and processed by Franz Werkmeister for the period from 1650 to 1950 on the basis of the church records of the parish of St. Leodegar. He reported the results of this research on November 23, 1990 in a lecture in the Schlossberghalle on the occasion of the 900th anniversary of Friedingen. The entire results were published in the yearbook 63/2006 of the Hegau history association Singen / Hohentwiel. The investigations of the genealogical and sociological conditions of the inhabitants of Friedingen are based on 4476 births, 895 marriages and 2861 deaths over a period of around 300 years. These are 45 families who have lived in Friedingen for at least two generations. On the basis of this data it is possible to completely compile the pedigree and relationships of the Friedinger families.

politics

Mayor

Roland Mayer has been the mayor of Friedingen since 2009.

coat of arms

The coat of arms shows a golden lion with a red tongue, who strides on a silver, sloping oblique bar on a blue background. This coat of arms served as the municipal coat of arms since 1904 and was originally the coat of arms of the Lords of Friedingen zu Friedingen and the Lords of Friedingen zu Krähen . At the same time, the Friedinger lion is still used in the coats of arms of Mühlhausen , Mühlhausen-Ehingen and in the coat of arms of Böhringen .

Culture and sights

Buildings

Hohenfriedingen Castle

The Castle High Friedingen is a hilltop castle on the Friedinger Schlossberg and takes under the Hegau castles a special position as the only habitable castle in the German part of the Hegau, a. The ascent is rewarded with a fantastic view of the landscape of the Hegau, Lake Constance and the Alpine chain.

St. Leodegar Church

The church of St. Leodegar is located on the central square, where the town hall is also located, in the historically grown town center. It is dedicated to the Leodegar of Autun . The church of St. Leodegar, whose tower was built at the end of the 13th century, is the oldest and at the same time the only two-tower church in today's area of the city of Singen and in the pastoral care unit of Mittlerer Hegau.

Sebastian Chapel

The Sebastian Chapel is consecrated to Saint Sebastian and stands at the confluence with Schlossbergstrasse, which leads to Hohenfriedingen Castle, the "old village square", which is somewhat narrowed as a result. The sick from the leprosy house came to the chapel every day and got their food there.

town hall

The town hall, opposite the church on the central village square, is a new building from 1907 and was previously housed in the "old school house", which was used as a school and town hall. The ceiling in the town hall was richly decorated with many coats of arms from all over the world. During the renovation in 1966 they disappeared behind the dummy a beamed ceiling and are no longer visible today. The latest deliberations of the local council regarding a redesign of the hall could possibly make these coats of arms visible again, if they are still there. In place of the town hall there was previously a weighing house and the fire station . A fire pond , which was fed by a spring , was located on the area behind today's town hall in the Gewann Brunnenwies.

school

The school building is a new building from 1914/1915. The school was previously also in the “old school house”. In 1960/61 there was an extension with new classrooms and a break hall, which was designed with a rural life frieze in pointed mosaic of 17 m by 3.5 m. This picture can no longer be seen either.

Sports

Sports activities in Friedingen mainly take place on the sports field and in the Schlossberghalle, which is used intensively by local clubs and various schools.

Winter sports were practiced on the shady northern slopes of Friedinger Schlossberg, for which a drag lift was built. Due to only a few snow days in recent years, it has not been built for a long time.

There is also a rifle house in Friedingen, which is somewhat hidden behind a spruce tree, on the western outskirts, not far from the Schlossberghalle.

Events

One of the major events is the meeting of fools, which was celebrated on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Kä-Stock fool's association from February 26th to 27th, 2011.

In addition, there are annually recurring events in Friedingen spread over the year, some of which can look back on a long tradition. But new events also enrich the local cultural life.

  • Around Epiphany, the theater performance by the amateur theater group of the gymnastics club marks the start of the new year of events. In Lake Constance Alemannic , the dialect that is spoken in Friedingen, people dare to try Bavarian plays, translate them and make the audience in the sold-out Schossberghalle laugh.
  • At the Dirty Dunnschdig , the town hall is stormed and traditionally the fool's tree is set by the fool's association. In the following days, Carnival is celebrated until Ash Wednesday.
  • On May 1st, when the sun is high in the sky again and nature turns green, people meet for the May Festival of the accordion orchestra in the school yard.
  • On Ascension Day, also Father's Day, the Musikverein organizes its traditional spring festival, which has been celebrated on this day regularly since 1956.
  • The Maria-Hilfs-Feast of the parish, which is celebrated in June or July, has its origin in the devotion to Mary since 1889, when a consecrated copy of the miraculous image of Our Lady was put up by the constant help in the church.
  • The fountain festival of the fool's association is celebrated in July and was brought back to life in 2010 on the occasion of the design of the new "fool's place" and the associated relocation of the old fool's fountain. The fool's fountain was built in 1961, due to a fool's meeting, at a different location when there wasn't even a fool's club elsewhere. The fountain shows the water thresher, a figure of the Friedinger Fasnacht, in the midst of a water-spouting group of frogs from the Egelsee.

A few years earlier, in 1991, there was a fountain festival for the “village fountain”, which was then set up on the newly designed village square at the town hall. This festival was given up after a year.

  • When tractor legends such as those of the Kramer , Fahr , Eicher , Lanz or Hanomag brands move through Friedingen's old streets with other accessories in August or September and equipment from bygone times is presented, it is again a show day for tractor friends, either in the Farrenstall behind the town hall or in the marquee by a barn at the exit of the village in the direction of Volkertshausen .
  • With the Dünnele festival of the music association in September, autumn is slowly arriving in Friedingen. With fresh Dünnele and good wine you can really enjoy yourself in the autumnally decorated Schlossberghalle.

Clubs and organizations

Sports

  • By far the largest club in Friedingen is the Turnverein Friedingen 1905 e. V. The more than 700 members do gymnastics , ski , play table tennis or theater , to name just a few groups.
  • The sport shooting club Friedingen e. V. 1961 celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2011. The shooting takes place in the specially built rifle house with a club restaurant near the Schlossberghalle.

music

  • The Musikverein Friedingen e. V., which was founded in 1898, is the oldest association in Friedingen.
  • The minstrel and fanfare parade of the gymnastics club is also a music-making group that was founded in 1922.
  • The accordion orchestra was founded in 1952.
  • The church choir sometimes sings in church on special occasions.

Carnival

The carnival has a long tradition in Friedingen, which is why the Kä-Stock fool's association was founded in 1936. Every year the burgrave couple appears to celebrate the carnival with their subjects, the water threshers, Kienspanwieble, Kä-sticks and castle witches. Legend has it that there was a so-called frogs , which says that the Friedinger had to move to the Egelsee and hit the water there in order to calm the loud frogs in the lake. The women lit up the dark night with their pine chips, which were obtained from cheese sticks. Heinrich von Friedingen, however, the lord of the castle, who felt safe behind the high castle walls, sat in his castle and slumbered. Meanwhile, up there, the castle witches were pulling their lanes through the dark night and doing their mischief.

Old traditions

The Schlepperfreunde Friedingen e.V. care for the preservation and the memory of earlier technology and old traditions of the Friedinger. V., which were founded in 2000.

Economy and Infrastructure

Friedingen has branches of several banks and grocery stores that cover the daily need for fresh food. The bakery is just around the corner. Five restaurants invite you to stop and provide culinary variety.

New development areas

Kehlhofbreite southeast

The "Kehlhofbreite Südost" building area offers nine building sites on 0.5 hectares and was partially developed in 2010 by extending two existing streets. In the same year the construction of the first houses began. The third access road has not yet been implemented, it is still used as an ornamental garden .

In front of the village

The “Vor dem Dorf” building area is around 5 hectares in size and consists of three sections that are to be built one after the other. The area, which provides for a playground and opens up to the open landscape with generous greenery, is located on the final edge of the village towards the Egelsee. It offers a fantastic view of Friedingen's local mountain and direct access to nature, such as the Egelsee, orchards and the forest areas on the Buchberg, which invite you to relax. This area was to be developed as early as 1967 in the first attempt. Further attempts to develop these areas also failed. In 2003 a master plan was drawn up, which represents the basis of a uniform overall solution for this area. The name “Before the village” is a bit misleading, as this area is relatively central. It probably originated at a time when these fields were actually still at the gates of Friedingen. However, the place grew in this direction even before the First World War , so that this area has been surrounded on three sides for decades and is actually no longer in front of the village.

Before the village I

Since the beginning of December 2013, last prevented by Bernd Häusler in 2009 , the first section “Before the village part 1” with 2.2 hectares has been developed. On March 31, 2014, marketing of the 15 urban building sites out of a total of 21 building sites began, of which only two were left after three days.

traffic

Public transport

Friedingen has a good bus connection to the core town of Singen via line 7364, Singen - Stockach , which is only 4 km away and can be easily reached by bicycle and which in turn has a wide range of retail outlets. The Friedingen district of Neuhaus is on the 7363 bus connection from Singen to Steißlingen and has no direct bus connection to Friedingen. A school bus commutes between Hausen an der Aach and Friedingen, which brings students from the neighboring town to Friedingen to school and back again.

Car traffic

Friedingen can be reached by car via five access roads. The road 189, from Aach to Singen, runs right through the town and divides Friedingen into an eastern and a western half. Coming from Hausen an der Aach on Kreisstraße 6123, you pass two bridges that were started in 2007 and the associated road that was only completed in 2011. A former country road, which leads in the direction of Radolfzell, connects to the K 6164 and the B 34. Since the completion of the "Mittelspange - Nord", the road connection between the B 34 and the Singen industrial areas south of the railway line, in 2013 these have become more accessible from Friedingen. Through traffic increases particularly at rush hour, which not only commutes to Singen from the communities in the north, but also between Singen and Radolfzell, as this road connection is a faster alternative for many residents of the northern part of Singen. This traffic load was recognized early on and therefore the planning for the construction of a bypass was pushed ahead. However, opponents formed who did not want to part with the trucks and cars in the village, and the road was never built.

Non-motorized traffic

Cyclists and hikers can reach Friedingen via the European long-distance hiking trail 1, Querweg Freiburg-Bodensee and a network of cycling and hiking trails.

education

In Friedingen there is a primary school and, from 1937, a kindergarten , which has had a branch in Hausen an der Aach since 2009 .
