The Salzburger Aluminum AG is an international supplier of aluminum components and systems for the automotive -, commercial vehicle - aviation -, motorcycle - and railway industry and of materials for the processing industry.

The company operates worldwide, the export quota is around 90%. The headquarters and all essential corporate functions such as production, research and development and sales are located in Lend (Salzburg) and in Austria . At the same time, the company has locations in countries such as the Netherlands , Sweden , France , Slovakia and Mexico, as well as a global network of sales partners.

history

SAG was founded in 1898 as the third European aluminum smelter and as a subsidiary of Schweizerische Aluminum AG ( Alusuisse ) under the name AIAG Aluminum-Industrie-AG Filiale Lend. In 1938 the company was converted into Salzburger Aluminumgesellschaft mbH (SAG). In 1938 the "AIAG (Aluminum-Industrie-AG) Filiale Lend" was transformed into the Salzburger Aluminumgesellschaft mbH (SAG for short).

In 1992 a management buy-out took place and Salzburger Aluminum AG was founded. In 1993 the subsidiaries Alutech GmbH and SAG Alu-Recycling GmbH and in 1994 "Aluminum Lend GmbH & KG" were founded. Also in 1994 the “Thixalloy Development” profit center was founded and a pilot production facility was set up. In 1995 "Euromotive GmbH & Co KG" was taken over. In 1999, "Thixalloy Development" was renamed Thixalloy Components GmbH & Co KG . In 2001 Alutech Nederland BV and Fueltech Sweden AB were taken over by Alutech GmbH. The following year, the Alutech also took the SAG FRANCE SAS The foundation of Alutech Slovakia sro and SAG Germany GmbH took place also in 2002. In 2003, SAG acquires a 26% stake in HPI GmbH , Ranshofen (High Performance Industrial Technology) and increased the Share to 51% by 2006.

In 2006 a new corporate structure was created through the divisions SAG Materials , SAG Motion and SAG Tech . In 2007, Salzburger Aluminum Sohar LLC, Sohar Oman, was founded. In 2008, Euromotive and Thixalloy were incorporated into Alutech GmbH and SAG-MECASA was founded in Mexico.

In 2014 SAG sold Euromotive as part of the Alutech company (location: Ranshofen) to the Swiss aluminum group Alu Menziken . In 2016 a new plant was founded in Spain and Aluminum Lend GmbH, Salzburg, was closed. In 2017, the former supplier MTX took over a Czech plant and initially continued to operate it with 50 of the former 83 employees. In October 2018, MTX announced that it would close the company at the end of the year.
