The Gottmadinger Eck area is a protected area (protected area identifier DE-8218-342) in the south of the German state of Baden, registered by ordinance of January 1, 2005 by the Freiburg Regional Council according to Directive 92/43 / EEC (Fauna-Flora-Habitat Directive) -Wuerttemberg . With the ordinance of the regional council of Freiburg on the definition of areas of community importance of October 25, 2018, the protected area was established.

The approximately 316 hectares (ha) large reserve "Gottmadinger Eck" is one of the natural area for Hegau . Its eleven sub-areas extend west, east and south of Gottmadingen and are spread over three communities and one city :

Protection purpose

The main protection purpose is the preservation of the Hegau landscape on the Upper Rhine with vineyards and moored dead ice holes as well as warm steep slopes on Molasse Mountains with natural deciduous forests and orchid-rich grasslands .

Habitats

The diversity of dry and humid habitat types in the protected area is made up of, among other things, “natural, nutrient-rich lakes”, “lime lean grasslands”, “whistle grass meadows”, “lean flatland hay meadows”, “woodruff beech forests”, “transitional and swinging turf bogs” and "Alluvial forests with alder, ash, willow" described.

The following animal species listed in Annex II of Directive 92/43 / EEC are recorded in the protected area: Yellow-bellied toad ( Bombina variegata ) and Northern crested newt ( Triturus cristatus ).
