The area Western Hegau is with regulation from 1 January 2005 by the Government of Freiburg after Directive 92/43 / EEC (Fauna and Habitats Directive) be trained reserve (SG number DE-8218-341) of the southeastern German State of Baden-Württemberg .

The approximately 1,879 hectares (ha) large reserve "Western Hegau" is one of the natural area for Hegau . Its 26 sub-areas are located in the municipalities of Bodman-Ludwigshafen (18.79 ha), Hilzingen (225.53 ha), Mühlhausen-Ehingen (169.15 ha), Orsingen-Nenzingen (75.18 ha), Steißlingen (206, 74 ha) and Volkertshausen (18.79 ha) as well as the cities of Aach (112.77 ha), Engen (620.21 ha), Singen (394.68 ha) and Stockach (37.59 ha) in the district of Constance .
description
The protected area is described as "an area of great geological differences: Hegau lowlands with flowing waters, reeds, flatland meadows and twelve caves, the Hegau volcanoes with grasslands , porphyry and basalt rocks and species-rich deciduous and sometimes ravine forests".
Habitats
The diversity of dry and wet habitat types with still and flowing waters , rocks, gorges, springs and species in a very small space is testimony to the development of the late and post-glacial landscape.

Protection purpose
