The area of Pfrunger Ried and Lakes near Illmensee is a protected area (protected area identifier DE-8122-342) in the south-east that was designated by the Tübingen Regional Council in accordance with Directive 92/43 / EEC (Fauna-Flora-Habitat Directive) of January 1, 2005 of the German state of Baden-Württemberg .

The approximately 1,724 hectare (ha) large nature reserve Pfrunger Ried and Lakes near Illmensee is part of the Upper Swabian hill country . Its four sub-areas extend between Ostrach in the north and Wilhelmsdorf in the south and northwest and southeast of the Illmensee center:

Protection purpose
Essential protective purpose is the preservation of a large marsh area with high and intermediate moors , vast, predominantly agricultural fen areas , small source bogs and larger Torfstichgewässern and three natural lakes - Illmensee , Rusch hamlet lake and Volzer lake - with silting Moor in the southern part areas.
Habitats
