The area Upper Argen and valleys is with regulation from 1 January 2005 by the Regierungspräsidium Tübingen after Directive 92/43 / EEC (Fauna and Habitats Directive) be trained reserve (reserve identifier DE-8324-342) of the southeastern German State of Baden-Württemberg .

location

The nature reserve of the Obere Argen and side valleys , around 930 hectares in size, is part of the Westallgäu hill country . Its fourteen sub-areas are around Argenbühl and Wangen in the Allgäu , along the Upper Argen in the Ravensburg district .

description

The protected area Obere Argen and Seitentäler is described as an "alpine-influenced river landscape with high dynamics, deeply cut side valleys and adjacent natural slope and alluvial forests, source areas, as well as lakes, ponds and litter meadows in extensively used low moor areas".

Habitats

The diversity of dry and moist habitat types in the protected area is illustrated by, among other things, "natural nutrient-rich lakes", "flowing waters with flooding water vegetation", "whistle grass meadows", "humid tall herbaceous meadows", "lean lowland hay meadows", "lime-rich swamps with Schneidried", " Lime-rich fens ”,“ bog forests ”,“ floodplain forests with alders, ash trees, willows ”,“ alpine rivers with lavender-willow trees ”and“ damaged raised bogs ”.

On the Bavarian side, the FFH area Allgäuer Molassetobel joins east of Wangen and the FFH area Stockenweiler Weiher, Degermoos, Schwarzenbach south of Wangen .
