description
The Ölkofer Ried is described as a "cultural landscape characterized by grassland, breeding, feeding and resting biotopes for specialized bird species, with species-rich meadow vegetation made up of reeds, tall forebear communities and hardwood stands, standing water with silting communities and litter meadows."
location
The approximately 370 hectares (share Herb Ertingens = 19.9% = 73.41 hectares; share Hohentengens = 80.1% = 295.45 hectares) large nature reserve Ölkofer Ried belongs to the natural preserve the natural area of the Danube Ablach plates . It is located about three kilometers northeast of the Hohentenger and southwest of the Herbertingen town center, in the lowlands of the Ostrach before it joins the Danube , at an altitude of about 550 m above sea level. NN .
Protection purpose
The main protection purpose of the Ölkofer Ried nature reserve is preservation and promotion
- the wood-free cultural landscape characterized by grassland as a breeding, feeding and resting biotope for the bird world that is bound to such meadow landscapes, in particular the curlew, which is threatened with extinction
- a species-rich meadow vegetation determined by different levels of moisture
- of reed beds, tall perennial communities as well as hardwood stands, provided this does not conflict with the objectives of curlew protection
- of still waters and their silting societies as a habitat for amphibians and aquatic insects
- of litter meadows and other forms of extensive meadow use
as well as the maintenance and design measures that lead to an ecological upgrading of the area.
The conservation area serves to avoid negative influences on the conservation area due to changes in the environment that are disruptive or impair the natural balance.
Partner protected areas
The two protected areas of Ölkofer Ried border the " Obere Donau Nature Park " in the north and east .
Flora and fauna
flora
The botanically most interesting area is in the agriculturally unused areas in Gewann Röthenbach : reeds, tall forebears and marsh meadows provide habitat for endangered wetland plants.
fauna
The Ölkofer Ried is especially important as a reserve for rare and endangered bird species . Whinchat , curlew , yellow wagtail and white stork still find a reasonably intact breeding or feeding area here.
