The Taubenried is a nature reserve (NSG number 4.288) and landscape protection area (LSG number 4.37.041) designated by ordinances of December 13, 1939 and February 16, 1998 in the area of the Baden-Württemberg community of Ostrach and the town of Pfullendorf in the district of Sigmaringen in Germany .
location
The approximately 192 hectares large reserve pigeons Ried (NSG: 126.3 hectares; LSG: 65.4 hectares) is part of the natural area of the Danube Ablach plates .
It is located 6.3 kilometers southwest of the center of Ostrach, west of the Kalkreute suburb , and 3.6 kilometers northeast of the center of Pfullendorf, at an altitude of 639 m above sea level. NN , north of the Altshausen – Schwackenreute railway line .
Of the nature reserve, 81.14 percent of the area (= 110.74 hectares) is in Ostracher, 18.86 percent (= 25.75 hectares) in Pfullendorfer municipality.
The protected area includes parts of the Harbach and Andelsbach valleys. Because of its original floristic wealth and its proximity to the Pfrunger-Burgweiler Rieds with its typical raised moor communities, it is of particular plant-geographical and historical interest.
The moor is a typical swamp moor: here, the ice age ground flow caused large landslides that dammed the Andelsbach into a lake with their earth. After the glaciers melted, this lake ran out again, now springs fed the area with so much water that it gradually became marshy. Due to massive human interventions, the natural and largely original vegetation structure can only be seen in a few places: for example the flat moor association of the Braunseggengesellschaft, which is mainly represented by the Nordic Fadensegge society, which is very close to the intermediate moorland.
Protection purpose
The main protection purpose of the nature reserve is the preservation and optimization of the diverse reed, which is characterized by the most varied types of vegetation, as a habitat and retreat for numerous animal and plant species.
Particularly worthy of protection are the intermediate moor and brown sedge swamp areas, succession forests (tiered forest stands with a high proportion of hardwood, emerged from natural succession after peat removal or on former litter meadows), wet bushes in permanent locations, the crawling birch meadow, successional shrubbery, high-growth grass bushes, sedge groves, reed thickets , open peat cuttings , bodies of water, ditches and their silted vegetation.
To protect them, further afforestation and the conversion of hardwood stands into coniferous forests must be prevented, the water level must be kept as high as possible and excessive nutrient and pesticide inputs must be prevented.
The protection purpose is also the improvement of the ecological situation and the preservation of the peat body as a geological document and the preservation of the beauty and uniqueness of the landscape.
The protection purpose of the landscape protection area is the preservation of the grassland areas on peatland, which are connected with the nature reserve in terms of natural space and history, as part of the habitat of the plant and animal species indigenous to the entire area, as a buffer zone to avoid negative influences on the nature reserve by disturbing, the natural balance or the landscape of the bog Changes as well as the open landscape of particular beauty and character to secure the landscape and the recreational function.
Partner protected areas
The Taubenried is part of the FFH area " Riede und Gewässer bei Mengen and Pfullendorf ".
