Protection purpose
The main protection purpose of the former gravel pit is to secure and develop the area as an ecological priority area for a large number of animal and plant species that can no longer survive in the otherwise intensively used landscape.
In addition to the preservation of the open water areas and their banks and silting zones as breeding, resting and foraging biotopes for numerous water birds and amphibian species , the adjacent abandoned hillside areas and the richly structured agricultural areas are also used as habitats for many songbird species and groups of insects , as well as typical wet, Protect dry or ruderal vegetation .
