Hohenhewen is a nature reserve on the mountain of the same name in the Baden-Württemberg town of Engen in the district of Konstanz.
Characteristics
The nature reserve was designated by ordinance of the Freiburg Regional Council of October 4, 1982 and has a size of 39.1 hectares. It is listed under the protected area number 3.123. The CDDA code for the nature reserve is 81910 and corresponds to the WDPA ID .
location
The nature reserve includes the Hohenhewen mountain cone and is located around 1500 meters southwest of Anselfingen , a suburb of Engen. It is completely enclosed by the approximately 8,425 hectare protected landscape area No. 3.35,004 Hegau and is also part of the FFH area No. 8118-341 Westlicher Hegau , which is 1,879 hectares in size. The area lies in the natural area 030- Hegau within the natural spatial main unit 03- Pre-Alpine hills and moorland .
Protection purpose
According to the Protected Area Ordinance, the main protection purpose is the preservation of the Hohenhewen as a unique geological document that is of particular importance for the volcanic landscape of the Hegau in its diversity, peculiarity and beauty and as a habitat for a multitude of rare and endangered plant species, plant communities and animal species.
