Bernd Kaut

Bernd Kaut (* 1945 in Wernigerode ) is a German Roman Catholic clergyman . From 1985 to 1995 he was President of the international Catholic missionary organization missio in Aachen .

Life

Bernd Kaut grew up in Constance . He studied Catholic theology and philosophy at the Universities of Freiburg and Munich and was ordained a priest in Freiburg in 1972 .

Kaut first worked as a chaplain in the Black Forest and then for four years in Kenya. In 1979 he entered the service of the international Catholic mission organization missio in Aachen and later became its general secretary and from 1985 to 1995 its president. He then led pastoral care for the German-speaking congregations in Washington, DC and New York City for eight years . In 2005 he became the representative of the dioceses in the state government and parliament of Baden-Württemberg in Stuttgart and head of the Catholic office . Kaut is a member of the SWR Broadcasting Council and has published several book and magazine articles.

Kaut has been retired since 2013 and lives in Freiburg im Breisgau. He is active as chairman of the Hospizgruppe Freiburg e. V.

Kaut became known to a wider public through various TV appearances, u. a. with Johannes B. Kerner on ZDF through his commitment to Jens Soering, who was imprisoned in the USA for double murder until 2019 .
