history

The Stretch Erlachsee was created by dredging in the 1930s for the construction of the autobahn . In 1969 and 1970 gravel was extracted again in the area during the construction of the southern bypass . The area was then recultivated under nature conservation aspects. Today the lake is up to twelve meters deep. The area is fenced.

In 2011 a floating platform was salvaged from the lake by the technical relief organization . The platform served as a breeding island for rare bird species. Due to a leak , it had previously sunk and styrofoam , which was originally used for buoyancy, threatened to leak and pollute the area.

Flora and fauna

Many partly protected animal and plant species can be found in the nature reserve. The gravel-coated islands form breeding grounds for the little ringed plover . The area is important for resting migratory birds , as the shallow water levels at different depths are particularly attractive foraging areas. Furthermore, the lake is a wintering area for diving and swimming ducks.
