Estradas do Zambeze, SA is a Mozambican company primarily dedicated to the operation and maintenance of roads and trunk roads in the northern Mozambican province of Tete . The stock corporation, which was founded under Mozambican law, is based in Maputo .

Shareholders

The company was founded on January 12, 2010 with its headquarters in Maputo. The shareholders are the Portuguese companies Ascendi Concessões de Transporte (40%), Soares da Costa Concessões (40%) and Infra Engineering (20%). In May 2014 Soares da Costa announced that it would sell its forty percent stake in the consortium company to the Portuguese company Mota-Engil for 4.8 million euros .

concession

Estradas do Zambeze won the 2010 competition of the Mozambican government for a thirty-year concession for the construction and maintenance of roads in the province of Tete. The denomination includes:

  • Maintenance of the Ponte Samora Machel
  • Construction and maintenance of the Ponte Kassuende and associated access roads (opened in 2014)
  • Construction and maintenance of the EN7 and EN8 highways between Cuchamano and Zóbué (approx. 260 km)
  • Maintenance of the EN9 trunk road between Cassacatiza and Tete (about 268 km)
  • Maintenance of the EN304 road between Colomué and Mussacama (about 156 km)

The roads are particularly important for traffic to the neighboring states of Malawi , Zambia and Zimbabwe and beyond. They represent an important link to the port city of Beira .

Refinancing of the costs takes place primarily through tolls on roads and bridges. The company outsourced the maintenance of the roads to the subsidiary Operadora Estradas do Zambeze, SA .

Assignments

Estradas do Zamebeze commissioned a consortium of the Portuguese companies Mota-Engil (43.5%), Soares da Costa (43.5%) and Opway (13%) with the construction of the Ponte Kassuende and the expansion of the trunk roads Bridges and roads, with Mota-Engil being the consortium leader. The bridge was inaugurated on November 12, 2014 by Mozambican President Armando Guebuza . The costs for the construction of the bridge and the expansion of the aforementioned road amounted to 105.263 million euros.
