Mittelberg is a nature reserve designated by the Stuttgart Regional Council of June 23, 2000 with the number 1.240.

location

The nature reserve is located in the Obere Gäue natural area and is around 500 meters southeast of Weil der Stadt . The Mittelberg is part of the FFH area No. 7319-341 Gäulandschaft an der Würm and is completely surrounded by the landscape protection area No. 1.15.027 Heckengäu-Weil der Stadt .

According to the regulation, the protection purpose is:

the preservation and securing of a typical, particularly high-quality hedge-gau landscape with large, extensively used meadows, semi-arid lawns, borders, hedges and stone bars for scientific, ecological, natural and cultural-historical reasons;
the preservation and safeguarding of the communities and habitats of a large number of animal and plant species typical for arid habitats as well as rare or endangered species;
the preservation of an exposed hilltop, which has a special diversity, uniqueness and beauty due to extensive meadows, hedges parallel to the slope, individual trees and bushes.

The plant species fine-leaved chickweed and thyme summer avens, which are classified as “endangered” in Baden-Württemberg, are special floristic features . Particularly noteworthy is the occurrence of the butterfly species sail butterfly and plantain piebald butterfly .
