Eckenlauh-Weißgerberberg is a nature reserve designated by the Tübingen Regional Council of February 1, 1994 with the number 4.236.

location

The nature reserve is located in the natural areas of the Mittlere Kuppenalb and Mittlereflächealb . It borders on the northeast outskirts of Münsingen and includes u. a. the crests and slopes of the 777 m high elevations Eckenlauh and Weißgerberberg . The semi -arid grassland of the area forms a biotope network with the semidrythic grasslands of the other nature reserves in the north of Münsingen: Höhnriß-Neuben , Kälberberg-Hochberg , Seetalhalde-Galgenberg and Schopflochberg . It is part of both the FFH area No. 7523-311 Münsinger Alb and the bird sanctuary No. 7422-441 Middle Swabian Alb . The area lies entirely in the Swabian Alb biosphere area .

Protection purpose

According to the regulation, the protection purpose is:

  • the preservation of the mountain peaks typical of the Middle Kuppenalb with semi-arid lawns, field trees and willow beech forests as well as the dry valley in between with grassland and pasture use,
  • the preservation, care and improvement of extensively used, species-rich semi-arid lawns with numerous rare and sometimes highly endangered plant and animal species,
  • the protection and maintenance of the free mountain tops as well as the adjacent, small-structured and diverse peripheral areas as a habitat for a species-rich plant and animal community and as a retreat for numerous species from the surrounding agricultural landscape, in particular as a breeding ground for highly endangered bird species, including individual agricultural areas in the peripheral areas of the protected area as Buffer zone to shield against interference from the environment,
  • the maintenance of a spacious biotope network from the Trailfinger Gorge via the Schopflochberg, the Seetalhalde and the Galgenberg to other semi-arid grasslands to the west and east in the north of Münsingen, including the Weißgerberberg and Eckenlauh.

Flora and fauna

In the area you can find the orchid species honey orchid , fly ragwort and fragrant handelwort . The occurrence of the protected Turkish lily is also remarkable . A faunistic enrichment of the area is the occurrence of the bird species whinchat , red-backed shrimp and meadow pipit . On warm summer days the song of the endangered locust species wartbiter can be heard.
