Halmberg is a nature reserve designated by the Tübingen Regional Council of December 21, 1994 with the number 4.252.

location

The nature reserve is located in the natural areas of the Mittlere Kuppenalb and Mittlereflächealb . It is a hilltop about 1500 meters southwest of the Oberstetten district of the Hohenstein community . The protected area is part of FFH area No. 7621-341 areas around Trochtelfingen .

Protection purpose

According to the regulation, the protective purpose is

  • the preservation of a hilltop typical of the Mittlere Kuppenalb with its biotope mosaic of juniper-forch heather of various forms, meadows and arable land and field trees;
  • the preservation of the attractive landscape typical of the Middle Kuppenalb due to this biotope mosaic;
  • the maintenance, care and improvement of large, semi-arid grasslands with their numerous rare and sometimes endangered plant and animal species;
  • the preservation of the sand pits in the area including the vegetation typical of the site as a cultural and historical testimony;
  • the maintenance of a biotope network between the juniper heather areas on Halmberg and neighboring heath areas on Steinberg.

Flora and fauna

The endangered plant species common cat's paw and purple summer root have been identified in the area. Among the bird species, woodlark , red backed killer and quail must be highlighted, and among the moth species, milkweed ring moth and grass heather ram should be mentioned.
